Our Wasco Forest initiative was launched in 2021 and marked a significant step forward in our sustainability efforts by successfully planting 160,000 trees.
Wasco Forest primarily focuses on conserving endangered rainforest species and restoring forests in Pahang, Malaysia. Spanning 100 hectares near Kampung Ulu Luit in Maran, Pahang, the initiative aligns with Wasco's net zero emission goal, addressing climate change, community enhancement, and biodiversity conservation. This achievement was highlighted at the Pahang State Level International Forest Day 2023 and the Rompin District Forest Office launch, where Wasco's efforts were recognised by Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
Reforestation through Wasco Forest plays a crucial role in addressing climate change as it helps with carbon sequestration by absorbing CO2 emissions and reduces the greenhouse gasses that cause global warming. Reforestation also protects and restores vital ecosystems providing habitats for a diverse range of plant and animal species that enhances biodiversity. These trees help prevent soil erosion, purify water sources, and maintain the overall health of ecosystems whilst contributing to climate resilience by reducing the impact of extreme weather events such as floods.
