Our Pipe Manufacturing Division is the pioneer in the manufacture of spiral-welded pipes in Malaysia and has over 30 years of industry experience. Wasco's spiral pipe manufacturing facility in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah is managed by Petro-Pipe (Sabah) Sdn Bhd or PPS. As an American Petroleum Institute (API) as well as ISO 9001 accredited pipe mill producing spiral-welded pipes, this facility always upholds the highest quality standards and the integrity of all the pipes it produces.

This facility has a capacity of 140,000 tonnes per year and is equipped with modern technology that enables it to produce quality pipes even without cold expansion. As such, it can cater to the highest demands and tightest tolerance with respect to straightness, roundness and accuracy of diameter. These pipes are utilised in many ways including as conductor casings and structural piles and for the purposes of oil and gas transmission as well as water and wastewater transmission.

PPS' plant is strategically located at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, a premier growth centre in the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA). This facility enables PPS to meet the demand for pipes in markets such as Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Cambodia and Australia. PPS also possesses a 30-acre site storage facility for its completed pipes and a splicing yard next to a jetty at Sepangar Bay that facilitates pipe pile fabrication up to a length of 100 meters.

With a strong technical competency in manufacturing API 5L large diameter steel pipes up to 25 mm thick, PPS holds a unique position in this Southeast Asia region. Long length pipe piles of some 100 meters can be achieved by welding together the standard pipes that are manufactured at PPS' API pipe mill. PPS' strategic alliance with international steel mills for its coil supply enables it to meet various projects that require steel materials.

Today, PPS specialises in these applications:

  • Foundation piles for bridges
  • Onshore foundation and bore piles

Aside from onshore pipelines, PPS has also had supplied offshore conductor casings to Esso Production Malaysia Incorporation (EPMI) for the SELIGI C, E, and G as well as Angsi and Larut B projects.

Special Application of Steel Pipe Piles
Pipe Pile Walls and Combined Walls

Steel pipe piles can be joined into continuous retaining walls by connecting them with weld-on interlocking sections or into combined walls (for example, conventional sheet piles as intermediate sections). Such pile walls and combined walls have enhanced resistance to vertical and horizontal loads as compared to conventional sheet pile sections. They can be used as quay walls, breakwaters, temporary cofferdams, retaining walls, bridge foundations and other civil engineering structures.

Steel Pipe Sheet Piles

A steel pipe sheet pile (SPSP) consists of a steel pipe and couplings welded on either side of the steel pipe. One SPSP is connected to the next one by interlocking their couplings and the interlocked couplings form a joint. The most commonly used joints in SPSPs are the P-P, P-T and L-T joints.

Steel pipes are used extensively to convey fluids, especially potable water, wastewater, steam, cooling water and sewage. Wasco's spiral welded pipes offer the following advantages:

  • Spiral welded pipes are able to withstand higher pressure than longitudinally welded pipes because the weld lines and their crystallisation zones are subjected to lower stress
  • Spiral welded pipesare equivalent to seamless pipes from the standpoint of resistance to pressure
  • The "bandage effects" arising from the helical welds, give the spiral welded pipes additional force during pipe bursting activities
